An open letter to our community:
We have had quite a journey getting through our process of creating a plan for our Buckeye Farms at Park Ranch agriculture-based neighborhood, or agrihood, concept.
At the very heart of every email, call, meeting, discussion and design session with experts in floodwater mitigation, transportation, planning, zoning, engineering, and sustainable community design, was the idea that Douglas County was founded in ranching and owed its heritage, culture and wide open vistas to those who continue to keep our pastures green and our water managed through agriculture.
As stewards of our county land for generations dating back to the 1800’s, my family’s legacy to our Carson Valley community will be smart, sustainable growth; to continue to manage the accessibility to the bucolic, pastoral beauty of Douglas County to all who live here, whether long-term or newly transplanted residents.
By deeding nearly 77 acres to Douglas County for the Muller Parkway alternate route, and preserving thousands of acres through conservation easements, Douglas County will emerge as a leader in planning for the sustainability of our local schools and businesses; energy conservation and transportation including walking and bike paths; public spaces; floodwater mitigation; and the viability of local food sourcing for decades to come.
As we move through the County’s process for authorization of our plan, we are asking for your questions, comments or concerns.
